On DYWC’s annual spring concert Diaspora, Danu explored the Celtic diaspora and ancestry through music. Amazing Grace, although not linked through composer, has its origin story of their home county of Donegal, having been written after a storm washed the composer boat ashore in Donegal. Founded by Douglas in 2022 Danu Young Women’s Choir traveled to NYC to compete in the Barbershop Harmony Society’s midwinter chorus festival where they were the highest-scoring choir and winners of the AAA Platue Champions award.

Douglas leads the award-winning Great Northern Union Barbershop Chorus in a nursery rhyme warm-up called “Alfred the Alligator.” You can find the sheet music to this video on my educator tools page under “lesson plans,” click the “google doc link.” I use this example to teach timbral consistency, breath, register consistency, and diction.
